PEANUT CLUB (“Kidz Club”) & FAMILY DROP-IN PROGRAM ASSISTANT

PURPOSE:                To assist the Family Resource Centre Co-ordinator in the development, preparation, planning and delivery of the CECC Peanut Club (“Kidz Club”) program and the family drop-in program.

REPORTS TO:         Family Resource Centre Co-ordinator / Program & Resource Development Manager

EDUCATION & TRAINING/QUALIFICATIONS: Related experience working with infants, toddlers and pre-school-age children; Early Childhood Education courses, or other related post-secondary education, completed or in progress; knowledge of child development, family life issues, family dynamics; current CPR/first aid certification; satisfactory Police Reference Check.

RATE OF PAY:       $14.97 per hour (CUPE Local 2998, Wage Grade 1, Step 1, under review)

HOURS:                     On-call/Relief: Mon-Thurs, 9:00 am – 12:00 noon (Kidz Club); Drop-in: Tues & Thurs 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm; Saturdays, 9:30 am – 12:30 pm; other daytime hours as needed/available.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plan and implement creative and stimulating activities for toddlers and pre-schoolers.
  • Staff Kidz Club (nursery program for children ages 2 ½ to 5 years), up to four mornings per week, maintaining a healthy emotional climate and aiding children and families to adjust to the program.
  • Create a safe and enriching environment conducive to the development of physical, social and cognitive skills in children.
  • Establish and maintain a positive rapport, information sharing and public relations/outreach with all parents and caregivers who are attending programs. Maintain a supportive, co-operative environment, which facilitates parent/caregiver involvement in tasks and child supervision.
  • Maintain program areas, including kitchen, in a safe, clean and inviting manner, by checking the safety of furniture and equipment, washing and disinfecting toys and equipment, and ensuring general tidiness.
  • Maintain a safe environment in program areas by monitoring adult and child activities to prevent injuries. Maintain attendance records; collect statistical data.
